1:1 iPads and Chromebooks

You wouldn’t take your child to a doctor who was using tools from the 1900’s! Schools aren’t exactly frozen in time – but when compared to the rapid changes taking place in our world today, they sometimes feel that way. That’s one reason why Holy Trinity School is so excited about the 1:1 technology program. Students in grades 1 – 8 will each be issued a new Gen 5 iPad for use in school and out – at no extra cost to them! Likewise, students in grades TK – K will be using the iPads in centers throughout the school day. Thanks to a grant from Apple and Sprint, in partnership with the Archdiocese of LA, the iPads will be insured against damage and replaced with an updated device every two years.  Additionally students in grades 6 - 8 are issued a 1:1 Chromebook for use at school.

As foundational technology skills continue to be in high demand in our society, students will be expected to apply the basics in how to solve problems, complete projects, creatively extend their abilities, prepare work, live, and contribute to the social and fabric of their communities. The NETS standards identify several higher-order thinking skills and digital citizenship as critical for students to learn effectively for a lifetime to live productively in our emerging global society.

These areas include the ability to:

  • Use iPADs to support personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning throughout the curriculum.

  • Use a variety of media and technology for directed and independent learning activities.

  • Design, develop, publish, and present products (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, brochures) using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom.

  • Communicate and collaborate with others in support of direct and independent learning.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity as well as practical applications to learning and problem solving.

  • Research and evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, of electronic information sources concerning real-world problems.

ADVANTAGES of USING iPads:

  • It has a touch interface that renders content beautifully and easily.

  • The iPAD has a 10-hour video viewing battery life, long enough to be used during the entire school day.

  • There is no need for power outlets or cords to be utilized by students .

  • The speed of the iPAD makes it easy to jump into the learning without losing instructional time in the classroom.

  • The iPAD is a first-rate device for student learning and interaction.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND ASSESSMENT :

The technology program at Holy Trinity School supports education while streamlining classroom management, progress reports, and assessments, therefore making it possible for teachers to spend more time with students. Technology also improves our ability to communicate with parents and all other shareholders. Technology is also used for secure student record keeping, assessments, and various forms of reporting.
