Since this is a Catholic school, the greatest emphasis is to be placed on providing a religious education for all students. Students are taught the basis of their faith through daily religious instruction. There are daily prayers and weekly Masses, as well as First Friday Mass and special celebrations. Students plan and participate in the liturgies and are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Celebration of the Eucharist is an essential part of the religious education of our children. Parents are always invited and encouraged to attend whenever possible.

STUDENT SERVICE HOURS
The students in the junior high grades at Holy Name of Mary School shall participate in volunteering service to the community. Starting in the 5th grade, the students will be required to sacrifice their personal time to serve others and follow Christ’s example.

• 5th graders should serve a minimum of 15 hours.
• 6th graders should serve a minimum of 20 hours.
• 7th graders should serve a minimum of 25 hours.
• 8th graders should serve a minimum of 30 hours.

Services done without compensation for family, friends, school, church or community during their personal time may be counted. Services such as chores normally expected from a 5th – 8th grade family member DO NOT qualify as service hours. Hours served from June 15th till May 31st of the school year will count for that school year only.

Any student falling short of the required minimum hours will have the balance added to their next year’s requirement. Students failing to complete the required service hours by the end of the 8th grade year will not receive the privilege of participating in the 8th grade graduation field trip or graduation dance.

Eighth grade service hours must be pre-approved by the principal or teacher.
Students entering Holy Name of Mary in the Junior High will only be required to fulfill the hours starting from the year they enter.
